On Exhibit: The Mood Series by Lizzy Mayer

Friday, May 31, 2019
Palisades Free Library

The Mood Series: Pastels by Lizzy Mayer on exhibit in the Marie H. Firestone Community Room during Mental Health Awareness Month, May 1 - 31. Artist reception will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 7 - 8:30 pm. The public is invited.

Artist Statement: These pastels represent the road to health. When the brain was at odds with itself the art stopped.  The art returned as the brain and soul healed.  Each pastel has movement and shading to reflect the mood in the moment.  A graduate of The School of Visual Arts, Liz has recently moved back to Palisades from Brooklyn.  She is an illustrator with a unique sense of humor.  Feel free to see more at Lizzymayer.com.

Coffee Talk: World War I - 100 Years After

2:00 PM - 3:30 PM
Palisades Free Library
Marie H. Firestone Community Room
Coffee Talk is a new daytime program series. Each session will feature a different guest speaker who will lecture or a lead a discussion in their area of expertise. Coffee and tea will be served at the start of each meeting. Space is limited.

April's program: 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of the United States entry into World War I. This program will cover the causes of World War I and the opposing alliances—the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. We will consider how the United States, originally a neutral nation, got involved in World War I, the Zimmerman Telegram and the role of trench warfare and how new military weapons—submarines, tanks, machine guns, and aeroplanes affected the outcome of the Great War. President Woodrow Wilson’s policy of non-intervention and peacemaking attempts during the Treaty of Versailles men will round out the program. Presented by Tom DeStefano, instructor at the Learning Collaborative in New City and Bergen Community College in Paramus.
